Mingsong Li Receives the 2026 Sun Shu Prize

Mingsong Li

Peking University reported in 2026 that Mingsong Li of the School of Earth and Space Sciences received the Sun Shu Prize from the International Association of Sedimentologists.

The award recognizes contributions to sedimentology and related fields. Li’s research connects cyclostratigraphy, paleoclimate records, Earth-system modeling, data assimilation, and open scientific software. His group studies how climate, oceans, sea level, groundwater, and carbon-cycle processes changed during greenhouse intervals of deep time.

The recognition also reflects the broader international visibility of quantitative stratigraphy and deep-time climate research at Peking University. Related work from Li’s group includes the development of Acycle for cyclostratigraphic time-series analysis and DeepDA for paleoclimate data assimilation.
